‘Yes, That’s Right: $500,000…’

At ELPA’s Annual Meeting on April 2, 2024, we received outstanding news: The Shingle Creek Watershed Management Commission has awarded Eagle Lake a $500,000 grant for watershed improvement. Yes, that’s right: $500,000.

This extensive project will consist of multiple stages:

  • The initial stage, scheduled for this summer, involves conducting studies to analyze various factors affecting water quality and determining what may be causing issues.

  • The subsequent phase will focus on educating homeowners and potentially aiding in shoreline restoration projects.

  • The third phase will encompass treatments for the watershed, including alum treatments to reduce phosphorous levels and enhance water clarity. This phase will commence in the fall of 2024, with additional alum treatments planned for 2026. The project will also be treating curly leaf pond weed and Eurasian watermilfoil in our lakes over a period of 5 years.

This project represents the largest and most comprehensive water treatment initiative for Eagle and Pike Lakes that any ELPA Board can remember. The anticipated positive impact could last for 10-15 years.

The Shingle Creek Commission is looking for volunteers from ELPA residents to assist with water quality monitoring to enhance the project's effectiveness. Your involvement in monitoring the lakes' water quality is crucial for the project's success. To volunteer, kindly reach out to the ELPA Board at elpa.org@gmail.com.

All residents are encouraged to check the Project status site regularly for updates on the project's progress:
